A New campaign has been launched to urge the need for immediate action on climate change. The Campaign dubbed 10:10 aims to get companies and individuals to commit to cutting 10% of their emissions in 2010.

Tottenham HotspurThe Campaign has seen a huge response with a vast range of businesses and celebrities committing to reducing their emissions by 10% next year, including Tottenham Hotspur, who have spent £100,000 on swapping the hundreds of lamps in White Heart Lane from the usual 2k to a more efficient 1.5k. Others committed include the Tate galleries, online grocer Ocado, The Guardian, the Women’s Institute and dozens of schools, universities and NHS trusts.

The campaign is backed by public figures ranging from the climate change expert Lord Stern to Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox, chefs Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Delia Smith, screenwriter Richard Curtis, directors Richard Eyre and Mike Figgis, designers Nicole Farhi and Vivienne Westwood, TV presenter Kevin McCloud and actors including Samantha Morton, Jason Isaacs, Pete Postlethwaite, Colin Firth and Tamsin Greig.

The campaign comes just 3 months before the climate change conference in Copenhagen in December, which is widely billed as the most important meeting on climate change in history, where regulations and actions for the next 40 years will hopefully be decided upon.

The 10:10 campaign is aimed to show that we can do more in the short term to reduce emissions, and not rely on a long term solution.
