Bleak Future For World Health
Posted on September 16th, 2009 1 commentLeading Doctors from medical journals The Lancet and BJM (British Medical Journal) have warned that a weak response to climate change could prove disastrous for global health.
This is not the first time global warming has been linked to a bleak future for world health. Experts have previously warned that higher temperatures could result in rises of diseases like malaria and dengue fever, as well as resulting in crippling food shortages and sanitation problems. In the new warning jointly published by the Lancet and BJM, presidents from 18 medical organizations worldwide, called for doctors to make themselves heard to the politicians, calling for those attending the climate change conference in Copenhagen in December take appropriate actions.
“There is a real danger that politicians will be indecisive. We call on doctors to demand that their politicians listen to the clear facts that have been identified in relation to climate change and act now.”
All eyes fall on politicians at the Climate Change Conference In December.
