Changing MP’s Expenses
Posted on May 13th, 2009 4 commentsI’m not a big fan of the UK parliament. Far from it in fact. I think this system is extremely outdated and has no relevance to the modern Britain, at all.
Priministers questions is grotesque. 200 of the most influential people in Britain in the same room, do nothing but taunt each other like children. How is this productive or relevant? Why not once a week sit down and talk like adults! One thing however, seems to have finally gone too far.MP’s expenses have finally been exposed. Politicians have proved they are willing to game the system at every chance, and change is long overdue. In a time of recession, and financial hardship for the British people, we have been paying for ludacris MP’s claims such as £3,020 for food (Francis Maud), £1,024 for cleaning (Kenneth Clarke), £7,000 on furnishings (Michael Gove), £2,000 to have a pipe repaired under his tennis court (Oliver Letwin), £145.96 for a pram (David Miliband), £2,339 for a magnolia carpet (Alistair Darling), £600 for a hanging basket (Margaret Beckett), £14,000 a year for a Housekeeper (Douglas Hogg) to name but a few.
Seriously. Tax money should be optimised to the highest efficiency of spending that benefits those who pay it. This is obscene. Being an MP should be a privilege, being that you not only get to serve your country, but that you actually get a say in how its run. At the moment it seems to be full of freeloaders in it for nothing but the cash. Until the motivation of government changes, neither will this failing country.

[...] which has clearly been open to financial abuse for years. I’m not against some form of living expense for MP’s, in fact perhaps the government should go out and rent a series of bedsits for those MP’s who [...]

This is not the case only of UK, but is prevailant all over the world. I don’t know how much an MP eats for £3,020. The government expenses should be curtailed.
