The trade union body has warned the figure, which applies unemployed people who are claiming Jobseeker Allowance vs the number of jobs available, had more than doubled over the last year. Competition amungst job seekers is threw the roof, as this time last year there was an average of 4 to 1.
The Isle of wight is the worst hit area, whith a shocking ratio of 60 job seekers per advitised vacancy.
“The government can no longer claim there is plenty of work available when there are as many as 20 dole claimants per jobcentre vacancy in parts of the country.”
The TUC’s figures came as a separate report by accountants BDO Story Hayward said one in every 56 UK businesses will fail in 2009, a 59% rise on last year.
