USA Missile Defence Plan Changed
Posted on September 18th, 2009 No commentsPresident Barack Obama has shelved Bush administration plans to construct a missile defence shield in Europe.
Instead Obama has completely overhauled plans to go for a “proven, cost effective” system. The old plans were controversial and involved bases in Poland and the Czech Republic, which caused strong opposition from Russia.
Obama’s new system will instead use land and sea based interceptors against Iran’s short and medium range missile threat. Russia has welcomed the new changes, but rather unsurprisingly right wing America is in uproar.
It’s a no brainer really, spending Billions of tax dollars on this when it is clearly needed elsewhere would be a massive error. The threat from Iran is not great enough as yet to warrant that kind of spending, and should be resolved threw politics and not warfare.
